Allow me to introduce The Best of Alaska by Rail & Sea — an exclusively designed and hosted journey departing July 3, 2027, where we celebrate Independence Day under the Midnight Sun, ride a luxury dome rail through some of the most dramatic wilderness on earth, and cruise past glaciers that have been building for millions of years. This is not a cookie-cutter tour. This is a curated adventure, built with intention, hosted by someone who genuinely loves to travel and loves to travel well.

It Starts in Fairbanks — Where the Sun 🌞Refuses to Set
It's a place where life revolves around the seasons, self-reliance, and the outdoors. Fairbanks isn't about flashy attractions—it's about experiencing authentic Alaska.
Summer is unlike anywhere else in the United States.
Nearly 24 hours of daylight around the summer solstice.
People mow their lawns at 11:00 p.m.
Kids play outside at midnight.
Gardens grow enormous vegetables thanks to the constant sunlight.
In winter, the opposite happens:
Long, dark days
Temperatures can drop to -40°F (-40°C) or colder
The aurora borealis often lights up the sky
Locals don't complain—they adapt. That's part of the culture.
It's common for people to:
Hunt and fish for food.
Cut and stack firewood.
Own snowmachines (snowmobiles) and ATVs.
Know how to repair equipment themselves.
Prepare carefully for long winters.
✈️ Days 1-4 in Fairbanks Spend four nights in the heart of Alaska's wild interior. On the Fourth of July, we head to North Pole, Alaska — yes, it's a real place — where they celebrate the Red, White, and Yule. A parade, a photo op in front of the North Pole 💈and Santa's house.
The adventure continues with a visit to Gold Dredge #8🪙, where you will pan for real gold (you are guaranteed to find gold, and you get to keep it!), ride a replica of the historic Tanana Valley Railroad, and learn interesting facts about the Trans-Alaska Pipeline (that's a whole other blog post) Then board the Riverboat Discovery for a cruise along the Chena River — bush pilots, sled dog demonstrations, and authentic Alaska Native life unfolding right before your eyes.
Optional adventures abound — a soak at Chena Hot Springs, a fishing float trip, or the bucket-list Arctic Circle Adventure by bus or by heli. The choice is yours.
🚂 Then We Board the Most Scenic Train in America
Days 4-5 we board the Alaska Railroad Luxury Dome Rail — breakfast and cocktails included — and glide through some of the most jaw-dropping scenery on the planet en route to Denali National Park. That evening, we gather for a cozy Cabin Nite Dinner Show, the perfect Alaska experience.
Denali offers even more optional adventures: a helicopter tour over the tundra, a wilderness raft float, ATV trails, or a gentle naturalist nature walk. The next morning, a Natural History Tour of the park gives us an expert's perspective and plenty of wildlife sightings inside Denali National Park before we reboard the dome rail for Anchorage — lunch, dinner, and two cocktails included on this leg.
🛳️ Then We Set Sail on the Celebrity Solstice
Days 6-13, we transfer to Seward for a full-day Kenai Fjords cruise — narrated by a National Park Ranger, with whale watching, tidewater glaciers, and wildlife in abundance — before boarding our home for the next seven nights: the Celebrity Solstice.
This is no ordinary cruise ship. Think a real grass Lawn Club on the top deck, an adults-only Solarium spa, Broadway-style entertainment, a legendary Martini Bar, and elevated dining with fresh Alaskan seafood. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and Wi-Fi are included. Icy Strait Point is where Alaska feels raw and real—home to authentic Native culture, incredible wildlife sightings, and some of the best whale watching in the state.
Ketchikan is a colorful waterfront town known as Alaska's "salmon capital," where misty forests, totem poles, and lively boardwalks create a storybook introduction to the Inside Passage.
Inside Passage cruising is a front-row journey through calm, protected waters where glaciers, wildlife, and towering forested cliffs glide past like a living postcard.
