Packing Essentials
Clothing:
• Pack with a color scheme in mind for easy mixing and matching and to avoid overpacking shoes and accessories.
• Choose easy-care fabrics like wrinkle-free or cotton-knit to minimize wrinkles.
• Pack dressier clothes for upscale restaurants (check for dress codes).
• Bring a jacket or shawl for cool evening breezes; by packing it in your carry-on it doubles as a blanket.
• Pack swimsuits, sunscreen, and beach gear in your carry-on if you arrive before check-in.
Toiletries:
• Wrap toiletries in plastic ziplock bags to avoid leaks.
• You don’t need to pack towels, irons, or hair dryers—these are usually available at the resort.
Health & Safety:
• Carry a small pouch with essentials like aspirin, bandages, and a small sewing kit.
• Pack prescription medications in your carry-on bag in case your luggage is delayed.
• Diabetics should carry a letter from their physician if bringing needles and syringes for insulin.
• Always carry the CPAP into the cabin. Checked baggage can be lost, delayed, or damaged. A CPAP does NOT count as a carry-on bag.
Important Documents:
• Always carry your passport, tickets, travel insurance, and other important documents in an easily accessible pouch.
• Keep copies of these documents separate from the originals in case of loss.
• Use the in-room safe for valuables or store them at the resort’s front desk.
Electronics & Accessories:
• Don’t forget charging blocks, memory cards, and extra batteries for your devices.
• For cell phones, contact your mobile provider to arrange an international plan.
Other Items:
• Pack an expandable bag to bring back items you purchase on your trip.
• Bring plastic bags for dirty or damp clothes.
• Scuba divers should bring their certification card.
• Pack a hat, sunglasses, and insect repellent for tropical climates and outdoor activities.
Travel Document Tips
• For International Travel:
- Contact your credit card company to notify them of your travel dates, ensuring they will accept charges during your trip.
- Consider carrying a major credit card, as debit cards are not always widely accepted.
• Traveling with Prescriptions:
- Pack all medications in your carry-on bag. Bring enough medication for your entire trip, plus a few extra days if possible. Keep medications in their original labeled containers.
- Bring a Medication List
Carry a printed or digital list that includes:
Medication names (brand and generic, if known)
Dosage
Prescribing physician
Pharmacy contact information
Allergies
Emergency contacts
This can be invaluable if you need medical care while traveling.
Travel Tips for Arrival
• If you arrive before your room is ready, leave your luggage with the front desk and hit the beach or pool. Pack a swimsuit and other beach gear in your carry-on if you plan to enjoy the resort’s amenities immediately.
• If you expect to do any hiking, bring appropriate shoes and gear.
Customs & Shopping Tips
• Keep all receipts for purchases made abroad and pack your items in a way that makes inspection easier when going through Customs.
• Make sure you are aware of hazardous materials regulations (e.g., aerosols, airbrush makeup, alcohol).
